2019 - Ron Burton Training Village
On October 19, MA HOBY volunteers helped with closing down the Ron Burton Training Village in Hubbardston for the winter. We moved lawn furniture into storage rooms, cleaned plants out of the decorative urns, covered up the baseball field and volleyball courts with protective canvas and other such tasks needed to ensure the facilities are prepared for the winter. After our busy day of work, we enjoyed pizza and s’mores around a big bonfire. The weather was great and the conversation was fun and interesting. Then, we spent the night in the dorms playing games, listening to music and bonding over shared stories and discussions. The event finished with breakfast in the morning and goodbye hugs. The entire weekend was made even more meaningful by the conversations had with Ron Burton, Jr. who worked alongside us, and joined us for dinner and conversation around the bonfire that he built for us. Ron was very appreciative of our help! Helping at the Ron Burton Training Village is an annual event that we have done since 2003 and one that we always look forward to doing.
