2016 - Special Olympics Winter Games
On Saturday, March 12th, MA HOBY staff and alumni volunteered to help run the Special Olympics basketball games held at Shrewsbury High School from 9:15 to 3:00 as part of the Massachusetts Special Olympics Winter Games. In total, more than 1,500 athletes traveled from all over Massachusetts to participate in the weekend-long state tournament which marks the end to the Special Olympics winter season. As part of the event’s volunteer corp which comprised over 900 people, MA HOBY volunteers helped by managing scoreboards, game clocks, and stat sheets, as well as cheering on the athletes, making signs for competing teams, and completing any other miscellaneous task that the program organizers, coaches, or referees asked of the volunteers. MA HOBY’s presence had a clear impact on the event, and it was evident in all of the smiles that the volunteers put on the faces of both the athletes and the coaches.
